I am having issues receiving advocacy from the unite here local 2 union San Francisco Four Seasons Hotel representative as of December 2022.
I am having issues being scheduled my full 40 hours a week when there are possible options that should be made available to me.
Union extras are, at times, being scheduled for more shifts than I, who is a full time employee. At times, the management is scheduling other union members more than 40 hours before I have had an opportunity to reach 40 hours.
I have attempted to speak with my union representative about management being fair in ensuring that all union members get to work their full hours, but the representative I have spoken with seems to find that there is nothing worth her involvement in helping me with my situation.
After all, when I have walked into the union office, there is a huge poster that states “One job should be enough!” It’s right. One job should be enough! And the union should advocate for all of its members to be treated with equal rights, benefits, and representation!
My advice is to document everything: violation dates, who you reported your initial grievance to, names of all involved and schedules. Submit your grievance in writing, via email to follow up with your local 2 business representative. Go to the resource page and look for the language in your contract that supports your grievance. Involve other members who are being affected by this scheduling issue as well. Is there a union steward at your property who is familiar with your work that can support you in enforcing this grievance? Take heart… when we fight, we win.
One day longer, One day stronger!
Sound like you are a cook or a busser as that is usually where you would find the use of “extras”. If this is true, there are classifications to be honored, and may have something to do with our ability to get access to those hours. I am a cook and a shop steward at the Hilton. I would be happy to help you figure out what should be going on, even if your not a cook, AOC or pantry. I know Milton Gomez is a little burnt out and not looking into issue as diligently as before. If you care to be more specific about exactly what going on maybe I could help.
